How does our Latin American traveler pay for all these gifts and souvenirs or his lodging or meals? These new data were added to our In-Flight Survey in 1996 and are reported today for the first time.

South and Central Americans pay for about half of their total trip purchases with credit cards. The rate is much lower for Caribbean travelers: only about a quarter use credit cards with cash purchases making up fully 70 percent. Mexico stands at about one third of expenses paid for with credit cards.
