Last year you heard me talk extensively about shopping and the Latin American markets. 90 percent of our overseas visitors, including those from the Latin American regions, participate in this activity.

Spending on gifts and souvenirs accounted for a stunning 45-47% of total U.S. expenditures by South and Central American travelers and those from the Caribbean. Europeans, on the other hand, spent only 27% of their total expenditures on gifts and souvenirs.

The Caribbean shopper appears to be quite variable from year to year while the South American and Mexican air traveler are both quite consistent in the amount spent on gifts.

Each South American traveler spent an average $597 on gifts and souvenirs in the U.S.!
