Summary of International Travelers to the U.S. - 1996Abridged EditionPlease Bookmark this Page. IntroductionPurpose and Objectives: The Tourism Industries office (TI) is required to effectively provide travel data to public and private industry users. In response, TI produces the Summary of International Travelers to the United States. The Summary reports are derived from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) Non-Immigrant Information System (NIIS). Normally INS issues the NIIS statistics to TI approximately three months after the ending month of arrival. TI extrapolates the official overseas visitor statistics to the U.S. and publishes it within five days. The INS had substantial delays, as we reported in our April letter to subscribers, and processing difficulties with the 1996 NIIS. In April 1997 INS provided TI with final figures. After evaluating the data it was apparent that there was still substanti al data anomalies within INS’s statistics. TI adjusted the 1996 INS figures for arrivals. The tables below are the 1996 adjusted figures. TI is reporting the arrivals statistics in their TINET as an Abridged Summary of International Travel to the United States.MethodologyStill Under Construction
