Brazil Travel Recovery Barometer Survey – U.S. Travel Demand
Third and Fourth Quarter 2002
The U.S. Department of Commerce, ITA, Office of Travel and Tourism Industries
(OTTI) released the Brazil Travel Recovery Barometer Survey covering travel
demand during the third and fourth quarter of 2002.
- The Brazil report is available in both English and Portuguese. The
Portuguese version is published and provided to the in-country Brazilian
travel trade that participated in the Barometer program.
- The report covers travel demand in the fourth quarter of 2002 (October,
November, and December) and the third quarter 2002 (July, August, and
September).
- Destination results are also available for the first time. Demand for
travel to several states and cities were included in the latest Barometer
survey. State and city specific results are reported in the Destination
Subscription.
- Destination specific forecast questions and customized questions may
now be added to future surveys. To get further information, please view
the subscription details on the OTTI web site at http://tinet.ita.doc.gov/recovery.
- The next Brazil Travel Trade Barometer survey, to be conducted in December
2002, will forecast travel in the first and second quarter of 2003. For

- The Barometer program is also conducted in the United Kingdom and,
starting in November, in Germany.
Travel Barometer Background:
The Barometer program is a tool for industry to help provide a short-term
forecast on travel demand to the United States. The USDOC, OTTI conducted
the Brazil Barometer survey in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service
- Brazil and the Visit USA Association Brazil. The Barometer is a qualitative
gauge of travel demand based on the Brazilian travel trade's business
activity.
The Brazil Travel Recovery Barometer is a cost recovery driven program.
The core subscription is available at no charge to the Brazilian travel
trade that regularly participate in the survey. There are three levels
of subscriptions available for a fee for all other interested parties:
the core subscription, the destination subscription, or a customized subscription.
